Alloy Jewerly {$50 GIFT CERTIFICATE GIVEAWAY}

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

I found it!  I’ve been searching all over the Internet, the malls and local boutiques with this specific idea in my head for my Mothers Day necklace.  My husband wanted to surprise me with a gift but our 3 year old gave that thought away ;-)   So with the green light from my husband I began looking for what I knew I specifically wanted, something simple, elegant, charming and personal (to me).    But it couldn’t cost us a fortune either.   I was referred to the site from a dear friend, she must know me very well :-)   And immediately I said, “ahhhhh this is it” and got very excited to have found my Mothers Day necklace, a keepsake, a cherished symbol of my loving family to wear with immense pride.  Here is mine!

Alloy Jewelry most well-known for its custom hand-stamped, personalized sterling silver and copper necklaces. Each piece in the collection is created to order and is different from the next, and is truly a unique gift for any mother, grandmother, bridesmaid, or friend. Leah will cut, hammer, hand-stamp, and oxidize each piece, so the options are endless as far as what can be created for you. You will fall in love with your custom necklace, and will never want to take it off! :-) The jewelry is not just your traditional “mommy jewelry”. In addition to stamping the names of your children, grandchildren, pets, and other relatives,  often Leah makes jewelry with quotes, inspirational phrases or words on them. She has stamped jewelry in loving memory of people who have passed away, made matching charms for circles of friends, and have stamped medic alert bracelets.
The options are endless!

I’m going to let the testimonials reinforce my sentiments. Leah is the owner and mother of two boys. She is amazingly flexible, has insight and vision.  I simply babbled a bit about myself and my family over email and she was able to design a custom made completely personalized necklace for me to wear everyday with enormous amounts of pride and love.  I’m thrilled! But as you’ll see when you read the testimonials or shop the website, Alloy Jewelry can be for anyone of any age!  With Leah working with you to make your item, not just necklaces for women, earrings, bracelets too, 100% just for you as you envision it.  Wonderful!  Graduations gifts, maybe your daughter is going for her first interview for a summer intern, or you son is having his First Communion, Mothers Day is the obvious gift that comes to mind, first time mom or mother of multiples!  The possibilities are truly endless when you are in complete control, Leah can design it for you!  Charm bracelet with precious glass stones wrapped elegantly in silver wire, beautifully feminine.

This is one of the most special, amazingly crafted, unique items I have ever bought. Leah worked with me to make a pendant for my daughter. She made my little dream a reality. It is beautiful and corresponding with her was a pleasure as well. Thank you so much Leah…I can’t wait until she comes back from her trip so I can give it to her”

“Leah- My stepmother was so touched by the necklace you made with all 7 of her grandchildren’s names. She hardly ever takes it off. And the ones you’ve made for me are perfect: simple and elegant. Especially since my first one was the first time both my boys names were together and I got it in the hospital which was amazing. You’re the best!!”

It isn’t too late to buy a Mothers Day gift if that is a task on your list.  Shoot Leah an email and she will dazzle you with her abilities! Realize that the item will not be received on Mothers Day however, but maybe you draw a picture of the peice you have in mind and slip it in her card, saying” being made with love” :-)

MamaElan Guest Writer: Sky from Seeryus Mama

Friday, February 19th, 2010

HA!!  So funny that our guest writer today emailed her write-up and this exact topic was on the table of conversation at last nights girl’s night for me as well!!  We all have them, we all hate them…Sky is lucky she’s only got one!!  I’ve had hundreds since I was in my early twenties!  Meet Sky from Seeryus Mama…Sky and I have a wonderful working relationship and I love reading with her {daily}!  I’m looking forward to following her as she embraces “old-age” {NOT} and perhaps decides to hide the greys! {BYW Sky, congrats on your The View news!!  Awesome!!}

“I knew this day would happen…I just didn’t expect it so soon. Really, it’s not fair, I mean, I’m only 31.

Yes, I found my first grey hair.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I do know that I yanked that puppy out before anyone could see it. And I’ve been scrutinizing my hair in the mirror. Turning this way and that – are there any grey hairs in the back of my head that I don’t know about?

I can see the effects on my 2 year old daughter. Paige doesn’t miss a thing. She watches me apply moisturizer and she wants some. The same goes for concealer, foundation and powder. Let’s not forget the lip gloss and mascara. While I don’t have a problem giving her moisturizer to put on, I don’t want her to feel like she’s not pretty if she doesn’t apply make-up. I’m walking a fine line with my little lady, and essentially forming her views on beauty this early in life.

As I flat-iron my hair, Paige sits on the counter watching. She likes to stand up in the sink and talk to the mirror, giving herself kisses and lately turning her head from side to side, in what resembles my search for grey hair. This makes me question whether or not I should color my hair.

And if I do? I haven’t colored my hair for 7 or 8 years. So should I turn my auburn locks into blond? Should I go darker brown? Or do I *gulp* let those greys come in gracefully?”

Seeryus Mama is a mish-mash of my life as a Mama to two beautiful children, as well as reviews of products I’m fond of. Keep your eyes peeled for those giveaways! I work outside of the home part-time as a Librarian, volunteer for several local boards and blog. I’ve recently added college student to that as well. If I’m not busy, I’m not happy! Seeryus Mama is MY baby book. It’s out there for everyone to see, and I’m excited to show it off!

Keep a look out, I’m changing the way Seeryus Mama looks (yeah, again!), I can’t wait to reveal the end look!”

“There are so many demands in life and moms seem to never have enough time to get everything done. Between family, work, and the daily chores, I often feel exhausted and drained by the end of the day. As moms we are great at taking care of others and putting our families’ needs first, yet not so good at taking care of ourselves.

I admit I am struggling with the idea of finding time for myself. Actually the other day I sat down to think about this and sadly I couldn’t remember the last time I went out for the day without the kids or went on a date with my husband. I am really trying to work on this because I know it is important for my sanity and it is such a nice refresher once in awhile.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day this year I am going to make some “me” time and I encourage you to do the same. We all need to reconnect with ourselves and loving yourself has to be a priority – a happy mom means a happy family!

Here are some fresh ideas on treating yourself and your heart this Valentines’ Day.

1. Count your blessings; Take a few minutes in the morning to reflect on 3 things that you are grateful for and make a list. You can add to it each day and whenever you are feeling down, stressed or just need a reality check – pull your list out.
2. Get together with your girlfriends; A night out with friends can be such a sanity saver. Not only that but it is nice to spend time with others that can understand what you are going through. Call the ladies, grab some snacks and pop open some wine. Talk, laugh, vent, cry if you have to – a night out with the girls is good for the soul.
3. Reconnect with your children; Most days I feel like I am being torn in some many directions and it feels good to just put away the computer, hide the cell phone and forget about all of the chores that need to be done. Just having a day with my kids playing, reading books, doing crafts, cooking, etc. really helps me feel refreshed and reminds me what is important in life.
4. Read a book; Every night after the kids go to bed, I curl up on my couch snuggled with a blanket {and an occasional glass of wine} and read. I probably shouldn’t tell you this but I am currently reading the Twlight Series and I love being taken away to a fantasy world. Pick a book that you have been meaning to read and start today!
5. Treat yourself to a bubble bath; Indulge in a nice, long, hot bubble bath with your favorite music, candles and your choice of a glass of wine or cup of warm tea. Relax and enjoy the moment to yourself.
6. Go to a movie; Buy the biggest bucket of popcorn, a HUGE soda and chocolate, chocolate, chocolate {guilty free!}. Take your hubby, a friend or go by yourself if you need some alone time. See a movie that will make you laugh out loud or cry out all of your frustration. Have fun!
7. Change your look; How good does it feel to get a new hairstyle or buy some new make-up? Reinvent yourself today! My hair is often pulled back into a ponytail and I sometimes forget how it feels to actually spend time on myself getting ready. I know by just getting a new fresh hair color or changing up my hairstyle makes me feel alive again.
8. Reconnect with your sweetheart; Book reservations at a nice restaurant, go on a day trip, spend a night away from home… whatever you do remember it’s all about the two of you. Rekindle the spark in your relationship.
9. Find a hobby; What have you been putting off that you have always wanted to do? Cooking, sewing, scrap booking, yoga, pottery making? Now is the perfect time! I really enjoy cooking and I finally signed myself up for a few cooking lessons. I am super excited. Do it today!
10. Send the kids out overnight; Enjoy a quite free night and SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP.

I hope these ideas helped you think of ways to nurture yourself and find time to do something you love. Don’t let this list limit you. Find things that will help make you feel refreshed and take care of your inner self. Enjoy the moment!”

MamaLuxe Friday Guest Writer {Cecelia from Cool Baby Kid}

Friday, February 5th, 2010

We can all relate to the craziness of life that our guest writer is going to share with us today!  Balancing priorities is something I struggle with on a {daily} basis and I know I’m not allow!  Let Cecelia explain a bit on setting goals and balancing life as a busy woman in this day and age!

Balancing It All: The Importance of Setting Goals
I was recently asked to speak to a group of students on how to “balance work and family” which I felt somewhat qualified to do and was happy to share the small bits of advice I could offer. More than any other question I am often asked, “How do you manage so many things?” Currently I work full time as an English teacher, have two toddlers, run a blog called Cool Baby Kid, and recently launched a review network and blog relations website with Bridgette (Experimental Mommy) appropriately named Double Duty Divas. Last week a new semester of classes began as I also navigate six credits working toward an administrative degree.

Busy barely scratches the surface to describe my life…but I love it. John Dewey said, “The attainment of one goal is the starting point to another.” In short the way to manage multiple things is by setting goals. Knowing where you want to end up makes getting there a smoother path. The best analogy I can offer is training for a marathon. (Tackled that a few years back.) Running ten miles on a Sunday afternoon is not as enjoyable as hanging out with the kids watching Sunday afternoon football. But with a goal in mind, knowing the steps to achieving it are necessary, the workout becomes more tolerable.

Balancing is also about utilizing time wisely. To get exercise into my day I use the morning; even though I hate waking up at 5 a.m., it is necessary in order to get daily workouts into my routine. Of course, having a support system is vital since mom needs a break sometimes too. Setting priorities and limits (1/2 hour of blog time a day, recognizing the kids will only be kids for a short time) puts it all into perspective as well. How to manage it all? Kids and family first, professional goals second, and no complaining about the goals you set…just work toward them. Oh, and having a hot tub doesn’t hurt either.

Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions! Yummy Healthy, Blueberry Bran Muffins {Recipe}

It’s a new year and if you are anything like me–at the top of your resolutions is getting healthy, losing weight, or working out–in some way, shape, or form. These Blueberry Bran Muffins are just the thing to help you reach your goals.

They are truly healthy muffins. No white sugar. No white flour. No oil or fats. They pack a real nutritional punch with lots of fiber and whole grains. I know what you’re thinking…they must taste “healthy” {read: inedible} too? Nope. These are good. So good that my non-health food loving husband and toddler boy actually love them. Try them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised!

The Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups wheat bran

1 cup nonfat milk

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup white wheat flour

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
