Green Garmento {FREE SHIPPING & GIVEAWAY}

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

For those of you taking little steps to live your life a bit more green, I have a product for you today that will painlessly help you take another step in living green.  ;-)   Most of us use the dry cleaners regularly right?  So what if I told you a company has designed a eco friendly 3-in-1 reusable garment bag, interested?

Green Garmento has designed the perfect bag for dry cleaning.  This is how it works, at home you use it as your dry cleaning hamper.  When you are ready for your clothes to by cleaned, the hamper becomes your dry cleaning duffel or bag.  This same bag is given to your dry cleaner and they use it as your garment bag!  Isn’t that wonderful!  No swapping out piles of clothes from one hamper to a bag  then from plastic bags to the closet.

The Green Garmento  team believes in helping you live greener. Every year over 300 million pounds of single-use plastic dry cleaning bags are dumped into our landfills?* And that’s just in The United States. Plastic bags are rarely recycled, they don’t completely break down in landfills, they kill marine and wildlife and can cause choking accidents and sometimes death in infants and toddlers. If left on dry cleaned clothes, the plastic bags don’t “breathe” which can cause the chemicals to stay in your clothing which then leach into your skin.

The Green Garmento is like a reusable grocery tote for your clothes. Green Garmento Features, made from recyclable non-woven polypropylene, breathable & water-resistant, side zipper allows easy access to hanging garments, drawstring closure at bottom, sturdy loop fits over any hook for use as a hanging hamper, durable shoulder strap for convenient carrying as a duffel bag, reinforced handles for compressed carrying, wide gussets allow cleaned clothes to hang gently at all times, machine washable (short cycle – cold) and hang dries quickly, see-through front pocket for dry cleaning ticket or other customer ID,  recyclable & Reusable.  I was worried about my dry cleaners not using my bag or losing my clothes but with the see-through pocket you just put a copy of your dry cleaning ticket in the pocket.  No worries :-)   The bag is big enough to hold 10-12 garments and comes in bright colors making the bag very easy to spot!

We’ve really enjoyed our Green Garmento bag.  It is just so convenient.  We use recyclable grocery bags, why not dry cleaning bags.  Such an easy change!

Fantastic colors, my favorite is the burst of orange!  You can not miss that bag!

GIVEAWAY ALERT! :-)    Let’s give one lucky reader a chance to win their very own Green Garmento!!  Win the Green Grass Garmento bag   when you comment back here what you like best about this wonderful product.   EXTRA ENTRIES FOR ALL GIVEAWAYS! Baby K’tan {DISCOUNT}

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Just when I thought I had tried them all, and I was accepting the fact that my little guy was just not into being a “sling” baby, Baby K’tan comes along with a fabulous carrier that Harrison actually loves!  My initial reaction to Baby K’tan was that it seemed like too much fabric & I wouldn’t know what to do with it all.  That said, I’ve had several weeks to play around with the sample that I received, and we’ve found SO many practical positions, so the extra fabric isn’t such a big deal after all!

Available in a ton of great colors, including several organic color choices, made of 100% cotton {or 100% organic cotton}, the Baby K’tan carrier is as comfortable as it is cute!  A cross between a traditional pouch sling and a structured baby carrier, the Baby K’tan gives you a ton of carrying options {literally, choose from eight different ways to carry your baby}!

What do “we” love about the Baby K’tan carrier?  We love that we can discreetly breastfeed in it!  It has come in handy on so many occasions when I’ve needed an extra “hand” to hold Harrison in place {read, 3 year old calls for help from the bathroom} while he is nursing & it has kept me all contained while doing so.  We are also big fans of the front, facing out carry.  Harrison is a rather “social” guy, and he loves being able to sit right up in front of me & see his world as I carry on about my day.

Although we don’t have twins, I hear that Baby K’tan is absolutely perfect for moms with double the fun!

All Baby K’tan carriers come with an extra piece of fabric, a sash, that can be used as extra support around the carrier.  If you don’t feel the need for the extra support, like me, it serves as a fabulous burp cloth or nursing cover when you’re in a pinch!

We’re going on vacation next week, and while I’ve stressed over strollers, booster seats & other gear that we need to bring along, one thing I haven’t thought twice about is what sling we’ll use!

Baby K’tan is offering a 10% discount to BabyElan readers until April 1st.  Please enter ELANKTAN at checkout!

aden+anais {GIVEAWAY}

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Well they’ve done it again!  The fabulous Reagan Moya-Jones and her team have added to an already wonderful collection of classic cotton muslin, organic cotton muslin and bamboo muslin products for your baby!  But now,….. the team brings you the Cozy Collection :-)

aden + anais has brought the legacy of muslin together with fashion-forward design to create a line of products that are as stylish as they are useful and as simple as they are beautiful. The proof is in every product we make. aden + anais is known for its high-quality 100% cotton muslin products that are fashionably designed with contemporary aesthetic taste. They have built their reputation on highlighting the special properties of muslin that make it ideal for infant and toddler care. The muslin products breathe and allow a baby’s body temperature to regulate itself naturally, dramatically reducing the risk of overheating.

For countless generations, mothers have swaddled and cared for their children with natural muslin.  aden + anais® brings this traditional practice to you with their specially-crafted cozy swaddles. Designed with fashion-forward prints and a double-layer of muslin, they are the perfect wrap for cold, wintry nights and brisk walks in the park.

Single 100% cotton muslin double-layer swaddling blanket. The fabric’s light, open weave allows a baby’s body temperature to regulate itself naturally which helps to prevent overheating. The double layer of muslin helps make baby comfortably warm on cold nights and brisk walks through the park. The more you washaden + anais wraps, the softer they get. aden + anais wraps are extra large, measuring 47” x 47”, so that new and seasoned moms alike can swaddle babies of all sizes with ease. Traditionally used for swaddling the wraps can also be used as burp cloths, nursing and stroller covers, portable crib sheets, stroller and car seat liners, tummy time blankets, change table covers, and more.  Since Noah is almost 10 months old we don’t use our blanket to swaddle, but we do use it every single day in our stroller :-)    We use it at the park too, Noah isn’t walking yet so he sits and plays in the sunshine :-)

SIDS is a serious health concern for any parent.   We would never intentionally do something to harm our children, aden + anais and the CJ Foundation for SIDS Educate Parents and Caregivers About The Dangers of Over-Heating Infants.   Be aware of the dangers so you can keep your baby safe. aden + anais proudly sponsor and raise awareness for the CJ Foundation.

In the winter months, parents and caregivers are more likely to crank the heating and reach for plush, thick blankets to keep their babies warm. Infants who are overdressed or covered in heavy blankets or many blankets are at higher risk for SIDS. It is very important for babies to be dressed lightly and comfortably to avoid overheating. The CJ Foundation recommends the use of wearable blankets and sleep-sacks in place of blankets to keep infants warm while sleeping.  Makes complete sense!  Over 2,000 babies in the United States still die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) each year, and overheating is a leading risk factor.

Here are som risk-reducing, precautionary practices:

Consider the use of fans to increases ventilation
Room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult, approximately 61-67 degree Fahrenheit
Cribs should be totally free of all loose blankets, stuffed animals and crib bumpers
Lay baby to sleep in an improved crib, on a firm mattress; do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad or waterbed
No smoking when pregnant or near baby
If possible, breastfeed baby
Offer a pacifier at bedtime
Co-sleeping should be in the same room but not the same bed or other sleep surface as parents

aden + anais has received the Creative Child magazine 2007 Seal of Excellence and several prestigious iParenting Media Awards.

About the CJ Foundation for SIDS: The CJ Foundation for SIDS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the special needs of the SIDS community through funding SIDS research, support services and public awareness programs. www.cjsids.org

Graze Organic {DISCOUNT}

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Baseball practice started this week.  Machine pitch for the 8 year old, first tee-ball season for the 3 year old {he’ll be 4 in 3 weeks}.  This means that life has officially gotten even more hectic for the Blakes, if that was possible!  Also means snack-time, dinner-time, and weekend lunches for about 4 days out of the week will be served on the baseball stands or lounging in the grass behind the dugouts once the weather gets a bit warmer.  Reusable snack totes, here we come!!!

I will NOT, will NOT, HAVE NOT bought plastic baggies for our lunches and away meals in quite some time thanks to all the reusable baggie companies out there!  I’ve tried my fair share and have never had a complaint!  Today I want to introduce you to the sturdiest ones I’ve found so far, plus the most “educational” for my pre-schooler.  No fancy designs from Graze Organic and that is totally not a bad thing!  When it comes to a hectic life and three very territorial little boys, simple and “the same” is what matters most!  So when I say, “Connor, grab your snack bag…” he’s learned which Graze Organic bag has “snack” on it.  Of course, they still fight over the “surprise” one {little do they know that one of these days I’m going to fill it with broccoli…SURPRISE!!!}

See, Graze Organic bags are educational like I mentioned.  My 3 year old knows the difference between them all, the pictures helped him learn the words and I have the confidence that when I’m watching T throw the ball at 6:30pm and chasing A as he heads for the port-a-potties and C is whining for his sandwich {AKA dinner on the run} I point him towards our cooler {which yes, is reusable too} and he knows which bag to open to find his sandwich!  Same goes for his {daily} pre-school lunch, all the bags are pre-labeled for us and easy to open for C so there’s no prep work for him or his teacher.

And what compliments I’ve received!!  Everyone is in love with reusable everything now a days but the simple “fruit” baggie from Graze Organics has gotten me the most comments while out and about {first was at a hockey game while the boys shared Goldfish from the “snack” bag and the family next to use was enthralled by Graze Organic bags!}.  Oh wait…I mentioned how sturdy they are right?  I’ve tried several other companies and these are the thickest, most durable ones yet!  Made in the USA from 100% certified organic cotton & hand silk-screened using water-based inks BTW so no worries on the material that is storing your child’s food.  I’ve been ever so impressed with our set of samples from Graze Organic and I thank them for easing my woes as baseball season crashed down on our family!!  GO PS ROYALS!

Organic Cloth Napkins too!!

Take 15% off your orders through March 14th with the code babyelan15!
