babystar/Cariboo

What’s not to love about babystar?  As one of the first modern baby accessory companies that ever turned up in my book, they just keep getting better and better!  They’ve recently started selling super cute organic denim & simple baby shoes.  But when I contacted them a few months ago, it was not for clothes, shoes or accessories; I was interested in their baby bedding!

With cool tones, and ultra mod designs, I knew their bedding collections were just what I was looking for to do Harrison’s nursery.  Specifically, I was interested in the Spring Yellow pattern, with it’s black, white, lime green & yellow dots & circles design.   Unfortunately for me, the Spring Yellow pattern is not available in crib bedding… But it IS available in a Cariboo bassinet insert!  So low and behold, babystar arranged for a sample Cariboo bassinet to be sent to us for a review, along with their exclusive, babystar Cariboo insert in Spring Yellow.  How excited was I, that not only was I given the opportunity to review the babystar pattern that I loved, but also a fabulous Cariboo bassinet.

Well, three weeks into use, and we could not be more happy!  The babystar insert is beautifully done, made to mimic the exact dimensions of the solid white insert that comes with the bassinet.  Made of heavy weight formaldehyde-free fabric, the insert will stand up to even the most intense washings. We opted for the Cariboo Gentle Motions bassinet, as opposed to the Classic or Folding.  I loved this option because it does fold up for ease of storage, but also gently rocks baby either with baby’s own motions, or with a parent’s gentle touch.

Another awesome feature of the Gentle Motions bassinet is that once you’re ready to transition baby to his/her own room, you simply unclip the insert from the bassinet frame, and clip it right inside baby’s crib, making the transition easier for the baby.  I am so excited about this feature, because it means all the more time we get to enjoy the fabulous babystar Spring Yellow pattern!

Now, I am not sure if this is because of the superior bassinet quality, or just because we have a wonder-child on our hands, but that child will sleep like there is no tomorrow when he is in his Cariboo bassinet!  During his first week of life, he rarely woke up during the night & we had to wake him for feedings.  After feedings, he went back in the bassinet, and we heard not a peep!  The very few instances that he did make his “halfway cry” as my husband likes to call it, I gently rocked the side of the bassinet & he was out within moments…  It’s truly been like heaven!

I highly, highly recommend a Cariboo Bassinet, spiced up with a babystar insert, for your little one.  You’ll get the soothing comfort that Cariboo has come to represent, along with the fun & youthful design of a babystar insert!

GOMAMAGO designs

October is SIDS awareness month, it’s an important issue to say the least.  It is also a controversial and confusing issue.  When you read reports and actually see pictures, SIDS is heartbreaking.    I have a five month old sound asleep in his crib as I’m writing this review and yes I use bumper pads, currently.  Visit www.sidsalliance.org for specific current information.

Thankfully Wonder Bumpers by GomamaGo designs sent me a sample of their innovative common sense product.  Catherine & Georgia became mama’s and immediately were not satisfied with the options offered for bumpers.  They felt the traditional bumper was out-dated and a hazard to their sleeping baby.

Top ten reasons not to use traditional crib bumpers…

  1. AAP, First Candle and CPSC recommend not using them
  2. Decrease air flow, increasing risk of SIDS
  3. Ties can become loose and cause safety hazard
  4. They lose their shape after time
  5. Difficult to wash
  6. Make it impossible to change crib sheet
  7. Do not protect babies’ heads as they learn to sit up and crawl
  8. They can be used as leverage to climb out
  9. Your baby’s view is limited to the back of a bumper
  10. Pediatricians tell you to remove them.

I didn’t realize every crib and crib bumper manufacturer is obligated to attach warning signs to their products indicating that traditional bumpers be removed once the baby can pull itself up, thus rendering the product totally useless.

Safety, Simplicity and Style; the Wonder Bumpers are the smart sleep solution with over 89 pattern to choose from you are sure to see something you love.
