Educational Insights {GIVEAWAY}

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I have found the most wonderful toy company!  I’ll never step foot in a Toys R Us again, happily.  I get so frustrated spending money on toys that aren’t truly creative, educational or challenging.   Often times a toy has all these features that appear to be teaching your child something but the toy is nonsense, it’s is more of an entertaining product than a learning tool.

Nicholas received Geo Safari Dino Dig set from Educational Insights, I knew he would love it because Nicholas LOVES dinosaurs.  He and his cousin plan to be Paleontologist partners one day :-)   So this Paleontology set provides a realistic archaeological challenge on a student-size scale. Both boys sat at our table and completely were silent while they uncovered their discoveries.  It invited them to excavate and assemble a complete skeleton from “fossilized” rock like real archaeologists—the perfect hands-on activity for dinosaur lovers!  How unique is that idea. They had a blast using all the excavation tool, dust brush, wax adhesive and 32-page Activity Guide with complete instructions and learning more about the amazing T-Rex.  Alex is 10 and Nicholas is almost 4, both boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  They learned to work together and realized even more how much they want to be paleontologist!   The boys were very impressed with their accomplishment.  Educational Insights understands how to challenge your kids, spark their imaginations and let them shine!

Abe’s Peanut {GIVEAWAY}

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like receiving a post card in the mail.  They’re fun, they usually always tell a story about someone’s adventure and of course post cards include a descriptive picture on the front.  A simple pleasure. Today in an email world our kids don’t experience simple pleasures like postcards anymore.   Abe’s Peanut however can help all of our children to know what it is like look forward to the mailman’s daily visit!

Abe’s Peanut is a narrative that unfolds over four different postcards each month (one a week).  Each postcard includes part of the story as well as a corresponding picture all addressed to your child.  My son Dylan has been receiving Abe’s Peanut for several weeks now and really gets excited about the mailman coming!  Each postcard is promptly read in his room (safely away from the hands of his 15 month old brother) and then placed into the top drawer in his nightstand.  All four postcards then come out a second time the day the fourth arrives.  Then his puzzle is complete!  He not only enjoys getting mail addressed to him but he also enjoys the challenge of reading the postcards himself.  Once he has a set he reads them over and over.

Each month a different artist and writer team collaborates together.  Expect a whole new look and concept and story each month.  It keeps Abe’s Peanut fresh for the young reader and they will be interested in each new adventure.  This is a great gift for your child or a friend or relative.  This gift renews itself every week giving it’s recipient something to look forward to constantly!

Abe’s Peanut would like one of our lucky readers to win one free subscription to Abe’s Peanut!  To enter please post what you like best about Abe’s Peanut or why you would like to win the free subscription to enter.  This contest will run for one week!  Good luck everyone!

CROW Watches

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

My 9 year old niece claimed this sample before we even had it out of the packaging!  “I’ll wear that, I need a cool watch!!” she proclaimed with wide eyes as we examined the bright orange accessory. Like the jelly shoes and slap bracelets from back in the day, these retro style watches from CROW are sure to make a fashion statement with the young and old, girls and boys, a functional time piece with a style all it’s own!

Unique looking right?  But this is the style these days…bright, vibrant colors on a light-weight soft silicone, water-proof accessory for active families.  If you are looking for something dainty, the Lush above is not for you.  BOLD is how this one is described!  My niece’s father actually has been seen wearing this to the pool quite often, they are now sharing this fun find!  This is the best watch for the elementary and tweens, bigger and easier to read with a full clock face, also brilliant for grams and gramps too!  I think my Grams would love the white one for Christmas…need to add that to my list.

Looking for a sportier, yet more classic look, check out their Toddy line:

Even more fashionable and elegant, the Bosco:

A style for every personality, CROW watches are beautifully crafted with the fashion forward in mind!  No need to spend hundreds of dollars on your next watch purchase, these are affordable and like I said, perfect for men, women, and children!  For you runners out there, this is a style I can totally you see you all pulling off!  {water-proof AKA sweat-proof!}

WallCandy Arts

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

My “office” {aka a corner in my bedroom} is a nightmare!  I’ll clean it, it’s messy by that evening.  I need a bigger desk of course, that would help, but it’s the papers, and lists, and endless amount of organization that needs to be done that makes it an utter disaster zone!  Today marks the first day of school for my oldest, 3rd grade…last night we were all like tornadoes trying to get back into the swing of early to bed, making lunches, folding laundry, and picking out the best first day outfit…it was exhausting, entertaining, and a bit sad {do I really have an almost 9 yr old??}.  Want to know my little sanity saver for a small piece of organization that goes a long way??

WallCandy Arts Whiteboard wall decals!  You’ve seen the chalkboard ones {which we have all over our playroom}, now check out the whiteboard ones!  Super clever and they have made my week!  A pack of 3 is only $18, thanks to our sample pack, we have one on our fridge for grocery lists, keeping track of chores, and “mommy/daddy to-dos”, another one is on T’s bedroom door for his to-dos and reminders for school {he’s also started his Christmas List already on this…this boy thinks ahead, may be our last year “believing” so I’m all for him enjoying it while he can}, and the last is on my “office” wall above my desk.  Oh heaven…I’ve used dry-erase boards before and they are fabulous of course, but they are always a bit too big, they fall or ruin the walls with nail holes, never just perfect…like these.  Move them around, wherever you want for whatever your needs.  Like I said, just a tiny, affordable bit of organization that goes a long way!!  We are now ready for school and Fall!

And if you haven’t ventured into the world of chalk decals yet, you MUST!  These are super fun for playrooms and bedrooms, yet perfect for the kitchen too for to-dos and supplies.  The kids LOVE these…buy them the chalk decals, buy some whiteboard decals for yourself, and you’re good to go!  Useful wall decor for the entire family!

Citizen Pip

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

It’s back to school time and Citizen Pip is ready to help us all out by making school lunches more fun, waste free and muck free!  {Muck free means no nasty stuff like BPA, lead and phthalates are included in these products.}  What a great way for any child to carry their lunch in style with containers as healthy as the food we parents place in them!

Citizen Pip makes it easy for all of us to make a small change that will later result in a larger impact.  Going reusable will at a very basic level help shave off some money at the grocery store after crossing baggies and other disposable containers from the list.  That may seem a bit selfish but to be honest with you it is one of the reasons I was excited about the opportunity to sample one of the Citizen Pip lunch bags.  Although school has not begun for us yet {we start this Wednesday}, my son has happily toted around his “Sport Style” bag to the beach, park and for a 3 hour car ride to grandmas.  He loves that it looks cool and that this lunch bag makes him feel like a big kid!  I love that it is spacious and very easy to clean!

Citizen Pip has many different options for everyone.  The “starter kit” includes the lunch bag, containers and a water bottle.  For those who may already have a lunch bag or box the “byob” kit includes all of the accessories like a fork and spoon set, reusable napkins and insulated food jar and more.  There are of course many options including purchasing items individually.  These are all great ways to help your kids get ready and get excited for a new school year filled with fabulous lunches!
