Tutortogs Official Launch and Interview

A big congrats goes out to Megan from Tutortogs today, as this week her business became official with a gorgeous website and online store!  What is Tutortogs you ask?   “Tutortogs is a collection of great-looking designs in bold, black and white patterns that captivate your baby’s eyes and encourage your baby to track motion by tracking you. Our high-contrast patterns stimulate your baby’s intellectual curiosity and encourage visual responsiveness.” We’ve always known these type of patterns encourage learning and growth amongst our babies, we see the designs on mobiles, toys, activity centers, AND NOW mama’s clothing.  It’s simply brilliant and of course stylish!  Enjoy our little interview with Megan today as you browse and learn about Tutortogs!   Make sure to join her on  Twitter and Facebook, and while you’re at it, check out their YouTube video too!

Do you have an interesting story or anything fabulous to share from your recent NYC photo shoot {all those precious babies and well-dressed mommies together in one place had to be entertaining}?

The photo shoot was fabulous. The models also included my two sister-in-laws and my nieces. We all felt like real models having our hair and makeup done.

The photo shoot was at Industria Studios in NYC where lots of commercials and other fashion photo shoots are done. It was really funny walking in the front door with strollers and baby bags while passing by the glamorous models who were in the hallways waiting for their photo shoots to begin. It was an exciting day because it was new for all of us, but we were all a bit nervous about how our babies would react to being in the limelight. Fortunately, it was a success all around.

It is not easy being a model, but our photographer Mark Schafer was an absolute pro and made all of us feel comfortable.

Are there any charities you support, on a personal or professional level, or plan on working with as your company grows?

Personally, I am a supporter of Massachusetts General Hospital. It is a wonderful institution that focuses on research and teaching. I gave birth to all three of my children at the MGH and receive all of my healthcare from this hospital. When my father was very ill, they really tried to help him. I believe it is an institution that does not see problem, but views complex health issues as challenges that need conquering!

As Tutortogs grows and is (hopefully) successful, I envision Tutortogs supporting one or two charities that focuses on enriching the lives of moms and babies.

What is your #1 pet peeve?

I really like things to be straight forward. I cannot stand it when I get the runaround. Most things in life can be simplified. There is no need for unnecessary complexity. I like straight talk and no nonsense!

A question we always like to get different views on, how do you manage being a mother and running a business?

This is not easy because being a mother and running a business are both full-time jobs. My husband and I take the “divide and conquer” approach. For example, one of us pays the bills while the other tries to manage schedules and Little League Games. We each have our responsibilities. I could not run a business without great help with the kids. In addition to the two of us, we have a wonderful woman who helps us with the kids. She has been with us for 8 years, since my son was born. Although she is part-time now, I am able to focus on what I need to do. Even better, my mother lives nearby and she is very much a part of our lives. Also, she always loves to help whenever she can so when I am in a bind I get some reinforcements!

Tell us your most favorite baby product on the market today; what item could you not live without while raising Maia?

We have a backpack carrier that we love and Maia loves too. It is an older one, but there are several great brands out there like Kelty, Deuter, Sherpani and many others. She loves to sit in it and look around and it lets me be hands free! She loves to fall asleep in it too which is a big bonus when she is overtired!

After 5 or 10 years, where do you see yourself and Tutortogs?

In 5 or 10 years, personally, I do not see myself any different because I am really happy with myself, my life and love what I am doing. As far as Tutortogs is concerned, I hope we are successful and have been able to touch and enrich the lives of many families and babies.

We wish you fabulous success Megan!!
