MamaLuxe Friday Guest Writer {Cecelia from Cool Baby Kid}

We can all relate to the craziness of life that our guest writer is going to share with us today!  Balancing priorities is something I struggle with on a {daily} basis and I know I’m not allow!  Let Cecelia explain a bit on setting goals and balancing life as a busy woman in this day and age!

Balancing It All: The Importance of Setting Goals
I was recently asked to speak to a group of students on how to “balance work and family” which I felt somewhat qualified to do and was happy to share the small bits of advice I could offer. More than any other question I am often asked, “How do you manage so many things?” Currently I work full time as an English teacher, have two toddlers, run a blog called Cool Baby Kid, and recently launched a review network and blog relations website with Bridgette (Experimental Mommy) appropriately named Double Duty Divas. Last week a new semester of classes began as I also navigate six credits working toward an administrative degree.

Busy barely scratches the surface to describe my life…but I love it. John Dewey said, “The attainment of one goal is the starting point to another.” In short the way to manage multiple things is by setting goals. Knowing where you want to end up makes getting there a smoother path. The best analogy I can offer is training for a marathon. (Tackled that a few years back.) Running ten miles on a Sunday afternoon is not as enjoyable as hanging out with the kids watching Sunday afternoon football. But with a goal in mind, knowing the steps to achieving it are necessary, the workout becomes more tolerable.

Balancing is also about utilizing time wisely. To get exercise into my day I use the morning; even though I hate waking up at 5 a.m., it is necessary in order to get daily workouts into my routine. Of course, having a support system is vital since mom needs a break sometimes too. Setting priorities and limits (1/2 hour of blog time a day, recognizing the kids will only be kids for a short time) puts it all into perspective as well. How to manage it all? Kids and family first, professional goals second, and no complaining about the goals you set…just work toward them. Oh, and having a hot tub doesn’t hurt either.
