Baby Harrison’s Nursery!! {DISCOUNT & GIVEAWAY}

Ahh, the much anticipated Nursery Feature! I have been “trying” to get this feature together for nearly a month now, but unfortunately all sorts of little things just kept getting in my way, including the little man himself. A brief note about Harrison… two words are all it takes to describe him; ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! What a sweet little angel he’s turned out to be, giving his mommy the rest she needs & the ability to bounce back into her whirlwind lifestyle, all the while, enjoying sweet & special moments with this precious new life.

So when I found out my 3rd child was to be my 3rd son, I quickly started planning his nursery. That for some reason, is always one of my top baby preparation priorities & this time was no different. It made perfect sense this time, since I knew we wouldn’t be needing to buy much else for the little guy. After all, I already owned 39 onesies in “newborn” size alone! And let’s not even mention clothes… We still have clothing from the other two, with tags still attached!

So after much thought and consideration, and inspiration from a Project Nursery (www.projectnursery.com) feature, we decided to go with a soothing & modern yellow themed room. It was only at the very last minute that we decided to add a touch of red to give the room a hint more CHEER!

We were lucky enough to find several awesome designers on etsy & beyond, who were able to participate in the final design outcome of Harrison’s Nursery!

Here are some of the highlights:

Harrison’s crib was generously supplied as a product sample from Babyletto, a modern baby & children’s furniture company. We LOVE the sleek lines & more importantly, we love the drawer under the crib. What a perfect solution to storing all those extra blankets, bibs & burp cloths that seem to pile up with nowhere to go. The crib was simple to assemble & works just perfectly in Harrison’s small space!

Bedding, curtains & plush blanket are from TipToe Studio, a fabulous custom baby bedding designer, on etsy. Emily was awesome to work with, and so patient with me as I changed my mind on the fabric and pieces that I needed, several times over the course of the initial concept design {which I have a tendency to do with all things of this nature}.

We received the awesome “Hello Yellow” Pinwheel Mobile as a sample from Claire of Dosta Beba, another fabulous etsy shop. We decided to hang the mobile over the rocking chair for now, as we had another one by Tiny Love that we wanted to hang over the crib for the early months. Although his eyes aren’t quite strong enough to see it now, we know that Harrison will enjoy gazing at it during feedings & rocking chair time with myself and my husband.

MiLu Couture supplied us with the adorable black & white plush giraffe that we have tied to the inside of the crib. Actually, this giraffe keeps teetering between inside and outside the crib, tied to the slats. I can’t decide which way I like it better, but for now, we’re keeping it inside since we opted against a bumper for the bedding set. Along with the generous sample that Cat provided for Harrison’s nursery, she also sent a 2nd giraffe for a GIVEAWAY! Details at the end of the post… MiLuCouture also wishes to offer all readers a DISCOUNT of 15%! Simply convo her first with your order & the code MYMiLu, and she will set up a custom order for you, with the discount already applied!

Next, we ordered a custom Nursing Pillow slipcover from mollyannemake, with Harrison’s name appliqued on it. The slipcover arrived in beautiful condition & fits over the Boppy pillow perfectly! Harrison and I have both been truly enjoying the plush softness of this custom minky cover. Molly, of mollyannemake, will work with you to create your perfectly custom cover!

Lastly, from etsy, as a final touch to the photo wall, we ordered a custom vinyl wall quote, from Vinyl Lettering. Angie worked fast & furiously, to get the custom wall quote shipped to us just in the nick of time, so that we could post this feature this weekend! With fabulous prices, prompt service & impeccable design, Vinyl Lettering is a great solution to that blank space on the wall that is staring you in the face!

Other highlights from Harrison’s Nursery:

The Nursery wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my dear father, who labored over the installation of crown molding & chair rail, and who painted the walls, window sills, doors & trim. This room was neon orange prior to the transformation & what an amazing difference a little color can make! Thanks Dad!

The artwork over Harrison’s crib was designed and printed by yours truly… You can see my other work at Paperluxe Studio or at my new little etsy shop. It was my way of adding my own personal touch to the room.

The cool photo wire is from IKEA {window treatment department}, and the idea to paperclip black & white photos to the wire, came to me over much time and deliberation… Am I thrilled with the way it came out? You betcha! Along with my two older sons, Colin & Alex, the other children are all Harrison’s first cousins.

I selected my favorite photo from my maternity portrait session with Kacey Rehg Photography, to display in the room as well. Love the way this looks!

The shelf over the changing table was a fabulous Craig’s List find! I am using the cubbies for our cloth diapers – more to come on our adventures in cloth diapering for the first time. Hint hint, it’s going great so far! I love the bar below the cubbies for hanging diaper covers to air dry, pull toys, binky’s, etc.

Yellow buckets were a Home Goods find, and were actually the first thing I purchased for the room. Love the way they pull the yellow all together.

Lastly, the rocking chair and wooden blocks over the diaper cubbies are reminders from my own childhood. The rocking chair was passed down to me from my father. This was the chair that I was rocked in as a baby… And the blocks, those were mine too. Knowing they might not be suitable for safe play nowadays {lead paint & who knows what other toxic chemicals}, I thought they made for a cute word display in the nursery!

If you’re shopping for a new baby nursery, and you need a little inspiration, I suggest you head on over to Project Nursery (www.projectnursery.com)! They have a TON of fabulous REAL ROOMS to see & Pam & Melisa even have their own interior design business, Little Apple Design. It’s a GREAT resource!!!

  8. I love the mobile, in the UK, we have what we call ‘windmills’, which is basically something that spins when the wind hits it, and they are the same as what you have on the mobile on the ceiling. I think its a great idea and look suburb. Also, I love the way you have put the photographs hanging on the wall, very lovely idea. Thank you very much, it’s given me some great ideas for my own baby nursery bedding.

  20. Really enjoyed reading this post. I’m getting a lot of great ideas on how to decorate my baby girl’s room from your blog. I’m leaning towards buying a pink and brown baby bedding nursery set. My due date is January 30th, so there’s still a little time for me to decide. Hope it’s ok that I share this post on Del.Icio.us?

  21. Jess says:

I love the colors you chose! What paint brand and color did you use for the walls?

  22. Brianne says:

First- I LOVE your blog. I’m just getting mine started and it’s so great to see all the possibilities!

I found your room when I went to Project Nursery and searched for “yellow and gray room.” We just found out that we’re expecting this past weekend and I’m ready to start planning because I know that I want to use this color scheme regardless of whether we have a boy or girl! I loved everything about it, especially the giraffe, mobile, and elephant print! I actually have the Babyletto Modo crib picked out, but love the storage option of the sample you received! I wondered if you could tell me about the paint color (gray is so hard to pick) and the yellow dresser? Thanks for being such an inspiration! I will definitely be visiting your shop for the elephant print!
