The Parent Trip {GIVEAWAY}

.!.

Through my constant networking I have met some brilliant people. Recently I “chatted” with a woman who tops the charts when it comes to an all around funny and passionate mother and author. Sharing her book with you today is a joy for me! This delightful book will be your next parenting purchase, especially if you are so sick of the boring step by step parenting and pregnancy how to books.

Jenna McCarthy’s book “The Parent Trip” had me hysterical after only a few pages! Jenna vocalizes {in a creative and humorous way} concerns all first time parents have. “From high heels and parties to highchairs and potties”, that’s scary!! Having gone through the baby making, pregnancy, and aftermath saga 3 times now, I wish I would have had this book to read the first time around. It would have made me feel more sane and comforted that I was not the only woman on the planet feeling like a crazy prego! And what pregnant woman or new mommy doesn’t need a laugh or two. Trust me, you’ll get a TON of laughs out of this book, Jenna has wrote a page turner!

Guest Editor Julie O. had this to say about “The Parent Trip”:

The Parent Trip is a hilarious read from start to finish. As a first time mother to be, I couldn’t wait to read this book. From Jenna’s contemplating pregnancy, then getting pregnant, then tending to her new born daughter Sophie, she highlights the highs and lows along with everything in between. Also she has great tips and advice for all moms and moms-to-be. A must read, couldn’t put it down! Her honesty and insight, will keep you laughing from the moment you start reading it.”

This is Jenna’s first book {here’s hoping there’s more to come!}. Read excerpts, Jenna’s bio {which in itself is funny}, and more at her website. Oh and of course buy the book with 20% off for our readers with the code “babyluxedaily”. Buy 2 or more and receive free shipping in the US as well, so stock up for your friends!

OR try your luck at winning a copy! Read the 4 excerpts on Jenna’s site, after you’re done laughing come back and comment to us your favorite! Good luck! Contest ends September 12th {which will be my 30th birthday!}

I enjoyed the “Pay at the Pump” excerpt. I can really relate to it. I pump and pump…and for what reason? I’m a stay at home mom…once a week I tutor children at the library and my husband has to give one feeding, yet I pump about 3 bagfuls a week. I ended up throwing out about 20 bags of the precious liquid gold after my first daughter stopped breast feeding. Yet, I’m doing it all over again with my second. Go figure.

I loved Chew on This b/c my daughter just got her first tooth and now is very insulted when her father and I eat real food in front of her w/o sharing. By the way, happy early birthday! I just celebrated my 30th in June.

  3. Kirsten Hany says:

The “mommy’s dead” section is perfect. I teach high school history and we do a section on fairtales (hello sleeping beauty – the whole premise is a strange guy macking on a dead princess – yuck!). I think that McCarthy is a very talented writer.

  4. Jennifer says:

Chew on this is so funny!! My son just got his first tooth and eyeballs everything we eat at dinner! It is funny to read all of the rules and regulations when it comes to baby food…It makes you wonder how feeding such a tiny person could be that complicated!!
    Happy Birthday!

  5. I like the “Mommy’s Dead,” and other fun and enlightening tales for tots. She has a good sense of humor. Great giveaway, thanks!

  6. Jo says:

He shoots he scores. This totally sounds like me trying to get pregnant with my first child:)

I have to say, I loved “He shoots, he scores!” We’re TTC #2 (which I wasn’t supposed to admit according to her right?) and I’ve gone through the same things she talks about in the excerpt. It was a perfect depiction of my life, right up until actually seeing the faint line. This book sounds wonderful, and I would love to read it!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. Kellie says:

My fave was chew on this! It’s so funny and true! I was one who was obsessed with my daughter littl ehives – thinking it must be a food allergy. Well I couldn’t ever figure out what it was but it’s gone now lol!

  9. Cindi says:

I can identify so much with “He Shoots, He Scores!” It took me two years to conceive my two sons and I was in my mid-thirties. Twice, my husband and I thought I was pregnant, but it was just bladder infections. I took my temperature and a fertility drug. Nothing! Fortunately, we ended up being blessed with two healthy sons. Thanks, Cindi

  10. Lara says:

“Pay at the Pump” made me laugh! Pumping makes you feel oh-so attractive! I can’t wait to read the rest of Jenna’s book and laugh some more.

  11. Oh gosh, I have to read this! My favorite was the “Pay at the Pump” excerpt – I could totally relate! lol

Thanks for the giveaway, it’s awesome!

Oh, I love “Mommy’s Dead.” I have these SAME thoughts — especially with the old man who, apparently, hits his head so hard he dies in his sleep.

The one that KILLS me (no pun intended – ha!) is The Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly. PERHAPS SHE’LL DIE?!?

    Nice.

God forbid a bug flies into my 4-year-old’s mouth some day. Oh the trauma.

  13. sew funky says:

He Shoots He Scores – I laughed out loud it was so funny! :)

  14. zmama says:

I love the chew on this!! :)

  15. Alice Hansen says:

Chew On This was also my favorite.

I loved them all, but i really enjoyed “Mommy’s Dead”, what great titles i might add!!
    :)

  18. Donna C. says:

Love Pay at the pump. It pretty much sums it all up.

  19. Xenia says:

He shoots, he scores! pretty much sums up the year it took me to get pregnant with my daughter. She just needed to go into convincing yourself that you’re pregnant each month and spending way too much money on pregnancy tests. Also, my daughter wasn’t so good at nursing, so Pay at the pump brought back memories of the way too much time I spent with my Medela. I would love to read the rest of this book!

  20. rebecca says:

The shoots/ scores is pretty much my life at the moment – I have been trying for 20 mths and have started fertilty treatments the last 3 mths. Everyone looks at me as if to say. Well?? – and the peeing on the hand? – yep, thats me – the any line is a yes – yep thats me too.
Good luck Jenna – I may not be in the book industry but I’ve read enough to know this one is a winner.

  21. David says:

Mommys dead – from the famine. Jenna’s sister sounds like me. – When my wife reads the book, she’ll say that the mom is in the other room, – but I tell it straight – shes probably dead son.
Does anyone remember what happens to Goldilocks? – I was telling the chilling tale last week and I forgot…….

  22. Roberta says:

Pay at the pump sounds familiar to me via my friend. She was in tears the other day over the fact that if shes not pumping, shes either at work or sleeping. – Hilarious -

I suggested going on an antidepressant so she wouldn’t have to pump anymore as it would be bad for the baby.
by the way – she says the milk is in ok in the freezer for a week – ?? and yes, she keeps hers below zero too Jenna.

  23. Roberta says:

ps Happy birthday for the 12th – you’re so young! 30!

  24. Laura says:

I like ‘He shoots, he scores!’. We kept it secret for that very reason. And then, my husband was so proud that he had working plumbing, he wanted to tell the world! So funny.

  25. Kristie says:

My favorite excerpt is He shoots, he scores! Both of our little ones were surprises, so we never worried about this, but if we have another it is good to know :)

  26. Becky says:

My favorite is Pay at the Pump! It hits a little close to home though.

  27. marybeth i. says:

Pay at the pump was funny but what really made me laugh was the last paragraph of her bio – kinda along the same lines.

  28. Jamie says:

I loved the pay at the pump excerpt. That is so funny and yet so true.

  29. Caryn B says:

Hilarious!!!! I like He shoots, he scores!!!!

  30. elaina says:

I’ve read every single Jenny McCarthy book. She’s so down-to-earth and funny. The Chew on This excerpt from this book was awesome.

  31. Elizabeth M. says:

I loved “Mommy’s Dead”. She’s so funny! We’ve all sort of thought about the words of nursery rhymes and how nonsensical they are!

  32. Samantha says:

Happy Happy Birthday!!! You’re officially a “thirty something”! My big 30 is this November and I can’t wait! :) So do you feel any different today?

Loved your interpretion of the enlightening tales for tots and couldn’t agree with you more!! Having three little boys, it is hard to find books for them that don’t involve villians and dungeons. And there’s only so much text you can you make up while their little eyes are staring at pictures of one-legged pirates with 36 inch swords or robots with machine guns that pop out of their arms! Ahhh!!
You are right – Dr. Seuss was definitely onto something with his silly verses and pictures…at least you can handle your little ones waking up in the middle of the night with cravings of green eggs and ham! :)
