When I left the hospital after having my girls, I had a notebook and an elaborate recording system for feedings, diapers, sleeping, etc. While my log came in handy at my first doctors appointment (how often are they eating? how many diapers?) I knew there had to be a better way. As a new mom, it feels overwhelming those first few days. How will I know how often my baby is eating? When did I change her last? Did she really only sleep for 8 minutes just now? Enter the Itzbeen. At first I was nervous about using it – but after I started, I couldn’t go back! Log, what log?

This handy little gadget has 4 timers that count up when the button is pressed. Three buttons represent an element of baby care: diaper, feeding, sleeping and there is button without a label which can be used for medication, exercise, etc. Once pressed you know how long “Itzbeen” since your little bundle last ate, pooped or fell asleep. There are a couple of other features that I couldn’t live without: a backlight for those middle of the night feedings, as well as a night light that when pressed stays on for a few minutes. This helped me navigate back from the changing table to the crib without tripping and waking baby. There is also a clip so that you can easily carry it downstairs while toting your teeny one and a nursing reminder at the bottom to help you remember which side was nursed from last.

I believe this tool is what saved me from a multitude of things during the blur of the first few months. Its the reason my babies weren’t overfed & that I had some semblance of recognition that they were actually tired vs. hungry vs. needing a diaper change. Now, I’m only in a panic if I accidentally misplace it!!
